Missed call text-back for electricians
Updated September 21, 2026
Missed call text-back for electricians texts the caller back within about 30 seconds of a call you could not answer, asks where they are, what is happening and whether there is a burning smell or sparks, and emails you the lead. AnswerBot does this for $129 CAD a month. If the caller describes something dangerous, the first thing the text does is tell them to call 911.
Electrical calls split into two piles that do not belong together. Most are ordinary work: a dead circuit, a breaker that keeps going, a panel someone wants looked at before they sell the house. A few are someone describing burning or sparks, and those need a different answer in the first sentence, not the fourth. An automated text that treats both the same way is a liability.
What happens when a caller describes something dangerous
The engine carries a life-safety rule that overrides the normal intake. If a caller describes sparks, burning, active fire, flooding, a gas leak, or no heat with someone medically vulnerable in the house, the first sentence of the reply directs them to call 911 if anyone is in danger. The bot is explicitly barred from promising that anybody will arrive by a particular time, and from playing the situation down.
It still captures the address and the details, and you still get the lead. The order is what matters: safety first, lead capture second.
What the text actually asks an electrical caller
These are the live defaults, not a sample script. The first three are asked of every caller; the fourth is the electrical-specific one.
| It asks | Why that one |
|---|---|
| The nearest intersection or address | So you know whether it is in your area before you call back, and which service you are likely dealing with. |
| The caller's first name | So the callback opens like a person calling a person. |
| What is happening: no power in a room, breaker tripping, sparks | In their own words, typed. A breaker that trips under load and a dead circuit are different trips. |
| Any burning smell or sparks | The electrical-specific question, and the one that decides whether this is tomorrow's diagnostic or tonight's emergency. It is also what triggers the 911 rule above. |
| A photo, on Growth and Pro | A picture of the panel usually tells you the age of the service before you arrive, which is most of the diagnostic on an older house. |
What a missed call is worth to an electrical contractor
Worked through with numbers you can replace. These are assumptions, not measurements:
- •8 calls a week you cannot take, because you are in a ceiling or at a panel
- •An average ticket of $400 across service work, with panel and service upgrades far above it
- •One in four would become a job if somebody got back to them quickly
That is roughly 8 jobs a month against a $129 plan. As with HVAC, the upgrade work is what makes the arithmetic lopsided: one panel job recovered from a call you never returned is worth more than a year of the subscription. Your close rate and your ticket are the numbers that decide it.
Run it on your own numbersNo AI voice on your phone
AnswerBot never puts a voice on the line. The missed caller gets a plain text from a local number, answers in their own time, and you call them back. Nothing tries to hold a spoken conversation with somebody who is worried about their wiring.
If someone texts "can I talk to a person", the answer is that the owner will call them back. The text is the bridge to you, not a replacement for you.
Who this is for, and who it is not for
For: owner-operators and 1 to 5 truck electrical shops
Residential and light commercial service work, where the phone rings while both your hands are occupied.
Not for: shops with a dispatcher
If someone already answers every call, missed calls are not your constraint.
Not a diagnostic tool
It captures what the caller can see and hands it to you. It never diagnoses a fault by text and never quotes the work.
What it costs
Starter is $129 CAD a month for 25 engaged leads and one location. Growth is $199 for 75 engaged leads, photo capture and up to three locations. Pro is $349 for unlimited engaged leads, your own intake questions and up to ten locations. Billed annually those are $109, $169 and $296 a month, and USD is the same number. The trial runs 14 days, a card is required at signup, and nothing is charged during it. Setup is about five minutes: one conditional call forwarding code dialled from the business phone, and you keep your existing number.
